| The 2011 dinner was held aboard the river boat Annabelle Lee. Guests boarded from the dock at the Hyatt Regency and cruised the beautiful St Johns River, viewing a gorgeous sunset and playful dolphins. Dinner included roast chicken breast and lasagna; accompanied by salad, mixed vegetables, roasted red potatoes, rolls, and dessert. Wine was served with dinner. Two special events highlighted the cruise. Pauline Wesner Pieroni, Doris Dietskow Engerrand, and Irene VanSteen Comyn joined the cruise. These three women were members of the first championship team in the AAU in 1941. They competed in the Trial National Championships in 1942, culminating as the first Official National Champions in 1946. They were introduced by Dawn Bean who had included them in her book, An American History of Synchronized Swimming. Athletes began their Lip-synch competition. Three talented teams competed in the semi-final round after dinner. Attendees voted with their donations. The competition concluded on Friday night during the Board of Governors meeting. One additional team was added by granting of a petition. Additional voting was conducted. The winners were awarded glittery "Champion" hats. The four teams raised nearly $8000 for the Founders Society. |
