United States Synchronized Swimming Foundation
|
Background
In 2001, the United States Synchronized Swimming Foundation Trustees and a group of Feasibility Study
volunteers reflected on the heritage and tradition of Synchronized Swimming in the United States. They
considered the success of US Synchronized Swimming in fulfilling its original, sixty-two year old mission of
becoming a premier Olympic Sport and a fun and healthful activity for all ages.
They also considered the successful history of the Foundation itself. Beginning with the original $1 million
from the 1984 Olympic Games, awarding grants exceeding $807,000, the principal was still over $1.6
million.
The Trustees and the Study Participants dared to dream about how much more could be done to support
the sport they loved with more money. A larger principal would yield larger dividends and that money could
be used to secure the future of Synchronized Swimming far into the 21st century.
The Foundation embarked on its first fundraising campaign to add to the endowment that had served the
Sport so well for nearly two decades.
The goal was to raise $1 million.
Ensuring the future
The Founders Society is the endowment-raising arm of the Foundation. It was created to recognize a
special group of donors: those generous individuals and corporations who share the vision of the Board of
Governors who established the US Synchronized Swimming Foundation, and all past and future donors .
By undertaking this campaign to increase the corpus of the Foundation, the Trustees ensured that there is
a perpetual source of revenue to fund future grants.
